Chars Livelihoods Program (CLP)

The program has initiated by the organization in assistance of CLP-DFID in 2005. The organization was working with this program for more than 7500 poor households living in the chars under Dewanganj and Islampur upazilla in Jamalpur district. Now in the second phase the area is covering only Islampur Upazila targeting about 4000 beneficiaries which will be increased in the coming years. The main activities of the program for better livelihoods of the char peoples are:-

  • Group formation and development
  • Group meeting discussing socioeconomic issues
  • Functional education
  • Training on group management, rights, leadership and disaster management
  • Video show relating socioeconomic issues
  • Folk song/village mela relating livelihoods
  • Social safety net directly and through group initiatives
  • Erosions grant distribution and disaster preparedness and management
  • Homestead plinth raising
  • Tube well and latrine distribution
  • Public places/road construction and maintenance
  • Agriculture support (homestead gardening, pulse-onion and whet cultivation, seed production, grass production, plantation)
  • Asset (Cattle/sheep/hen) transfer/distribution to the land less and asset less households
  • Livestock support (Cow and goat rearing, vaccination for cattle and poultry, cow dewarming, community based vaccinator development)
  • Enterprise and market development
